Shira Tarrant, PhD is an unconventional feminist redefining gender justice. A nationally recognized expert on sexual politics and contemporary culture, her most recent books include The Pornography Industry: What Everyone Needs to Know (Oxford University Press), Gender, Sex, and Politics (Routledge), and more.
Shira Tarrant's commentary has been featured on global media including Entertainment Tonight, Canadian Broadcast Corporation, Vrij Nederland, NBC, Forbes, KCAL 9 News, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun, Denver Post, Sydney Morning Herald, and on radio stations in Los Angeles, New York, Berkeley, and Houston. When not writing or hiking the Los Angeles trails, you can find Shira at California State University, Long Beach where she is Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
Shira is currently expanding her professional focus to include mental health concerns, highlighting body, mind, and spirit at the intersection of politics and human experience. She is a clinical trainee seeing clients at Miracle Mile Community Practice in Los Angeles.
